Should the DF have been a D4 sensor in a D 800 body? With 8 ish FPS and D800 price?

I am inclined to say yes as that would make an incredible combo, but the DF body is not one for me, and i appreciate others will love it. It just seems like a missed opportunity to me.

This is yet another way of saying "where is the D700 successor?".

What does it have to do with the Df other than it isn't the mythical D700 successor? Hasn't there been something similar about every single Nikon full frame product since the D4?

What is has to do with the Df is that the Df has an ideal sensor for an FX speed camera and that speed camera is a missing product in their product line that some are waiting for.  Plus, clearly Nikon chose to devote resources to the Df rather than other cameras that people wanted.
