Worried about purchasing the Sony RX100 II

Hello

First time poster but avid reader!

Going on a holiday of a life time next year (Florida and the keys) and me and my wife wanted the best possible point and shoot camera there is and after reading all the reviews I have decided on the rx100 ii.

Unfortunately I know very little about photography and all I do is use the auto and scene modes on my previous cameras. I have just read in a review/blog that to get some decent shots out of this camera you really need to have a bit of experience of photography and get off the auto/scene modes. Is this really the case? Would love some feedback on this as I would hate to spend a huge chunk of £$ on this camera and find that its no good for me....

Oh, I'll also attach the link to the blog in which I read about the rx 100 ii (the conclusion)

Thank you
