You got me wondering...

and now I think the process makes sense, as 250 shutter releases would take only 3 quarters of a minute @ the nominal 5.5 FPS rate.

Given that the poor technician on a wood stool would inspect the sensor only in the end and that the lingering suspect (from D600 times) is related to shutter/mirror lubrication, continuous shooting looks like an adequate testing procedure indeed, due to the unrelenting build-up of friction/heat/splash-ability on the shutter "clockwork", n'est-ce pas?
