printer worth ~32 prints?
Nov 28, 2013

I just ordered online my first print. I have been shooting with a Nikon D5100 for almost a year and have not tried printing before.  A 12x18" B&W print on matte paper cost about $22 including shipping. You can get a new Epson R3000 now for $550 with rebate. I've been looking for an estimate of how much it costs to print at home. From what I can gather, $5 per print for ink and paper is probably an overestimate. So a new printer starts saving money by about 32 prints. That is, 550 + 5 n = 22 n. If you're a beginner like me, it will probably take several tries to get the print you want, so you'd reach the break-even point pretty quickly. Does that seem right?
