As some people have already said Apple do not recommend or support this.

I think the reason they don't is because there are network drives and there are network drives. Some perform way better than others. Apple's own timemachine is not a great one for anything other than home use of backing up documents etc.

I have Aperture 3 with the library on my MacBook Air's internal SSD and its a referenced library to a 9Tb NAS RAID5 and it all works very well, but I did spend a lot of cash on an enterprise level NAS. Even then when on Ethernet and more so over WIFI there is a bit more of a lag accessing images than when accessing them direct.

That said I prefer accessing them from the NAS as I have a big library of images and this setup works best for me despite Apple's warnings against it.

Just my thoughts.
