With digital photography, why use multiple exposure anyway? It's better to simply combine in Photoshop.

Because if you shoot RAW then the doing it in-camera combines them at the RAW level and spits out a RAW file with all the benefits of DR, noise, etc. that you lose working with multiple 16bit .tiffs and such in PS. The trade-off is less flexibilty for certain kinds of uses, but then an in-camera workflow also brings a certain aesthetic with it due to the limitations that you won't get with pp'd workflows. Ultimately, they're both useful and good tools to have in your kit.
