Aside from what Trevor wrote, the X10 has an Aperture bracketing mode that can be used. I used to use it on an HS25, but the X10 seems to retain dynamic range much better, due perhaps to the sensor's size more than anything else. You can shoot three shots at DR 100 with +/-1. I suspect (though I haven't tried it) that if you switch to M size you can shoot "three" shots at DR 200 or DR 400 with +/-1, but this combination actually gives you six shots, which you can extract using dcraw, and should give you more to work with.
