Are you PROUD of your gear?
Nov 16, 2013

Now I know that many here profess that their camera and lenses are only tools, that they have no emotional involvement with the artists brush, but reading the heated debates (lately about the Df), it would seem there is a great deal of pride if you only scratch the surface.

The D600/D610 owners regularly post how their cameras are really on par with a D800. It is said again and again that it really does sound defensive in the final measure. D700 owners are quick to defend a halted upgrade path because their "The D700 wasn't replaced yet." Hmmmm. I replaced mine.

And most recently, there is a fervor of fantasy regarding the latest Df, a FX model that PERHAPS redefines (in a small way) how a DSLR should handle and that certainly defines how it should look. Do some feel an undercurrent of pressure, even THREAT from this new camera? And what occurs when the D900 is announced? It starts all over again.

And the hypocrisy of many statements, seemingly bent on ignoring the "this is just a tool" ideal, are of a jealous, even angry nature. Some have gone so far as to literally label the "type" of person who'd buy a Df!

So I wonder how honest we could all be. Are you proud of you gear? Think about it for a moment. We all make fun of posted shots of gear, calling it "camera porn" but I think there's more to it.

ARE YOU PROUD OF YOUR GEAR?
