Weird problem w/ D800 - Blotchy photos @ low ISO ?

Well I can assure you I am not a happy camper. After walking 4 miles on a beach to take some beautiful

landscapes during sunset, all the photos are horrible. Im not sure what ruined them. I used a tripod, manual mode, ISO never went above 200, no exposure compensation, used wireless remote release, all stock settings. Every single one looks blurry, and 'blotchy' especially in the shadow/darker areas. I was using the Tamron 24-70 VC ad the Nikon 24-70. No difference in what lens it was, or when I took the pic. Please see the below.  These are crops at 100% size.

Now of course when I got home, I took some portrait pics with the Nikon lens, and it was perfect like expected. Anyone have insight on what may have happened?
