Pentax 18-55mm DA AL- weather sealed, non rotating front element, metal mount, smc coating (easy to clean folks), good max magnification for macro work, much better than competitors kit lenses by far. (About $80-140.00 USD currently)

Good luck!

.

if you can buy this Kit-Lens for less than $50 like me, it's a bargain !

but it's Not - in any case - a Pentax High-Performance Lens

I tested it versus 30 years old Primes on a K5 :
= smc M 28/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/1.7 :

at F/8, the border/corner sharpness of the kit-zoom was never on par with old primes

First you're using an older version of the kit lens, the new one is MUCH improved, and, comparing it to a prime lens. Don't know what else to say there.
