If I prefer to manually focus, should I still get the FE 55?

Opening up

Another thing to think about is the way a dedicated AF lens can facilitate wide-open focusing. Sometimes stopped-down focusing is fine - even preferable - some times not. Depends a lot on the scene, your settings and whether your lens has focus shift.

Sometimes I find opening up manual lenses for focusing is an acceptable workaround - mostly for tripod shots at f/16 - even a couple of stops helps a lot. (I do repeat that step often enough, I would give some serious consideration to an automated native solution IF it rendered sun stars and resisted ghosting the way my 100mm Leica macro does.)
