Soft Focus, photos not sharp

I have owned this lens for 3 years and am not impressed with it. I rarely bring it out of the bag now as the photographs it takes aren't crisp. They lack sharpness and seem out of focus over the entire photograph, it quickly auto focuses but the resultant quality is fairly poor. I use this (or tried to) along with my Canon 60D. Features are impressive, 70-300mm Image Stabilised zoom, fairly light for it's range but since the photos aren't worth printing, not much point owning it. I do own another Tamron lens, 17-50mm F2.8 DiII SP which I absolutely love, it was this lens that prompted me to buy the zoom but unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend that one.

Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD
Telephoto zoom lens • Canon EF, Nikon F (FX), Sony/Minolta Alpha • A005
