Firefox colour management puzzle

So, I have a calibrated and profiled system. I use Spyder 4 Elite to do this. No problems so far but I have just noticed something curious.

See this Lagom.nl black level test image in Firefox (or any browser):

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php

Then open the same image in colour managed software such as Photoshop (I assigned it to sRGB since the png in question is untagged).

I can see all the blocks but in Firefox the first black levels are noticeably brighter than in Photoshop.

I do have the Firefox colour management setting gfx.color_management.mode set to "1" so that it should take into account the monitor profile for all images rendered in the browser.

Additionally, I have left the gfx.color_management.display_profile blank so that Firefox will check the current system display profile to use. I only have one monitor running.

Anyone know what's up with this strange behavior?
