I shoot Sony, the only camera maker with SLT and one of the few with EVF. Then there is Pentax, one of the few SLR's with in body stabilization. On the smaller side you have Fuji, probably the best mirror less camera out there. Olympus and Panasonic are pushing the boundaries of what can be done with a small sensor.

Canon and Nikon are just boring compared to Sony, Olympus, Pentax, Panasonic, and Fuji. I don't understand why Canon and Nikon dominate with their lack of innovation.

The other story I see floating around is that Nikon is going to be out of business in 5 years . . .

But the reason I keep giving Nikon (or Canon) my money is simply this . . .

My daughter does gymnastics. I try to take pictures of her doing gymnastics. It is the thing that I shoot that puts the most demand on my camera.

At gymnastics meets . . . they run around really quickly . . . and they spin and jump . . . something that is hard for cameras to keep up with from an autofocus perspective . . . And I am not allowed to use flash or autofocus assist lights as that will disturbed the gymnasts.

Personally . . . I have found that in this situation . . . an OVF seems to operate the best / easiest.

There is no "black-out" or there is not "can do fast fps but focus is fixed at the 1st picture of the series."

I tried out a Sony A33 way back when and an Olympus OM-D E-M5 . . . heck, I have a mirrorless camera . . . the Pentax Q . . .

But, right now . . . the best bang for the buck for me to get these shots is a dSLR from Nikon or Canon.

I did a simple little search on Flickr . . . not scientific I know . . . but just for the heck of it . . .

On Flickr I did the following searches . . .

"Sony gymnastics pictures"

"Fujifilm gymnastics pictures"

"Olympus gymnastics pictures"

"Panasonic gymnastics pictures"

"Nikon gymnastics pictures"

"Canon gymnastics pictures"

I am sure that at some point in the future the EVF will be fast enough and accurate enough and not put restrictions on autofocus performance . . . and when that day comes . . . and it is affordable . . . I will probably switch over . . . but for the now I will buy the old antiquated dSLR bodies because they let me get the shot and are reasonably priced.

But then . . . just as my daughter jumps around at gymnastics . . . isn't this like any parent trying to shoot pictures of their kids? Right now . . . you can get an entry level dSLR for $300-400. For bang for the buck . . . it gives you a great chance at capturing your kids, being kids, running around, etc . . .
