Did Ricoh make a mistake buying Pentax Image?
Oct 30, 2013

According to this article by Michael Reichmann, The Luminous Landscape, the days of DSLR are numbered (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/pdn_photoplus_2013.shtml). DSLR will, like high-end stereo gear, diminish in market share and likely become a niche product for wealthy enthusiasts. Mainstream enthusiasts will move to so-called mirrorless system cameras and the mass market will happily take pictures with their smartphones while uploading them in real-time to Facebook. If the future of camera industry is mirrorless, Ricoh's own development team should be right in the position for it. In addition, the K-mount doesn't fit the mirrorless design as the ill-fated K-01 proves it. It seems that Ricoh gains nothing buying Pentax Image if Michael Reichmann is right.
