That issue was resolved in iPhoto in one of the more recent updates, BTW.

Looks like its time for an upgrade.

The latest iPhoto (9.5) requires OSX 10.9 and Aperture 3.5 currently needs OS10.7.5 or later or 10.8.2 or later. I run 10.9 on a 2013 MBP Retina, an older (mid-2007) MBP, and an older (late-2007) iMac and the software runs very well on all of these.  In fact, I believe it runs much better on the older machines than I thought would be possible.  It is very fast on the Retina, and I think you will be pleased with its performance when you update your hardware.

Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks, while free upgrade, requires:

  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • OS X v10.6.8 or later
  • 2GB of memory
  • 8GB of available space
