Thanks for sticking with me through this long slog!

Let me try asking a slightly different question...

Might it make sense to think in terms of what adapter is best?

For example, are any adapters for Canon or Nikon advantageous for some reason?

Such as: do any pass the aperture back to the camera to save as EXIF?

Perhaps if there is a 'better' adapter, that could help limit my search?

Thanks to all, -Scott

There is usually no electronic contact in a manual lens adapter for Nikon AF, Zeiss ZF.2 (Nikon mount) or Zeiss ZM (Leica mount) . Other posters have commented on adapters for Canon's auto aperture lenses.

What is very important is the manufacturing precision of the adapter. Adapters made by Voigtlander and Metabones for the lenses listed above are considered very precise. If the adapter length is not correct (which is the case with many other brand and no-brand adapters), the focus distance shown on the lens will not be the correct focus distance. This is usually referred to as incorrect infinity-focus, but it applies to all focus distances and all lenses.
