the overall system will still be much smaller than any full frame system.

For the same IQ, M43 system are larger.

Some people also want more reach or more depth of field - not less.

This is the biggest "spin" people keep spreading around to justify m43's lack of shallow DOF.

Why?

Because every current lens we know is capable of stopping down to give infinite, or very near infinite DOF. m43 has no DOF advantage whatsoever.

But the so far announced full frame E mount lenses are not particularly fast - so you loose much of that advantage. Fast full frame E mount lenses will be quite big too.

That, again, is completely untrue. Sony FF F4 lenses are decidedly smaller 43's F2 lenses

Sony 24-70 F4 = 426g, $1200 vs Oly 14-35 F2 = 900g, $2300

Sony 70-200 F4 = 840g, $??(probably within Canikon range - $1300~1500) vs oly 35-100mm f/2.0 = 1650g, $2500

Again, m4/3 will do fine but will E-M1 do well after A7 release is the question - from a price point of view.

Body price is only a small part of the equation. Sony charge relatively high prices for lenses and other things - that soon mounts up if you want to build a whole system.

Definitely. As expensive as Sony's FE lenses, to replicate their performance you have to spend a whole lot more with 43/m43 lenses.

Most EM1 shooters are not going to be using the 14-35 f2 4/3 as their standard range zoom. They are likely to be using either the Panny 12-35 or Oly 12-40, both are, smaller, lighter and in the case of the 12-40, cheaper than the Zeiss. Same goes with the 35-100 4/3 vs the current 35-100 Panny or the announced Olympus 40-150 f2.8.

How do you know how the FE lenses will perform if they haven't even been tested yet? LOL
