Bodies come and go, but it's the overall system is the big draw for Nikon and Canon.  There simply are no complete SLR systems like Nikon and Canon with every focal length for UWA zooms and primes, to large aperture primes, to classic 70-200 f/2.8 and f4 lenses, 1:1 macro lenses, tilt shift lenses, fisheyes, to the high grade super telephotos. These two lens lineups cannot be matched by any vendor.

One or two Sony bodies and 4 or 5 extremely expensive Zeiss branded Sony lenses will do little to hurt Nikon and Canon.
