If I were to buy a articulated LCD, I would never go halfway. Either it flips and twists, or it doesn't. Suppose you talking a photo and want portraight orientation. The pivot screen is useless. 90% of the disdadvantages, only half the advantages? Why bother with halfway?

UP and down. The flip and twist style LCD isn't the best solution for everyone, so lets not pretend it is. Some shooters don't even want a flip and twist and prefer the simplicity/purity of a fixed screen. Sony met them in the middle.

A purist is going to need a good reason. A compromise isn't it.
