I Went on a one year back packing trip to Australia in the year 2000 and didn't even think of taking a camera. A bag full of Kodak disposables over 6 months and I bought a compact. 3 weeks later and that went plop in a lake. I then got a Canon EOS1000. I now shoot nikon

About 9 years ago my first digital was a Nikon Coolpix 8800 bridge camera, still got it and it still works with its original battery. Last year I put a NEF (17 seconds to write to the card :-o ) from it up against one from my D700 with Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 lens. I gave them both the full monty processing and at 100% they were identically sharp! It was only the ISO noise that let the cool pix image down. Damn! Nikon put a good lens on that thing..
