That is correct, I can see now that I wrote camera right for the kicker but should be camera left.
The spill on the background is from the kicker light.
I really like this kicker effect and plan to use it more, basic reflector might not be the best modifier, I will look into barn doors or gridded stripbanks.
You will get different effects from the metal reflector that came with your light, grids, barn doors, and strip softboxes (gridded or ungridded). Look into each before investing.
Sometimes the best way to control light is with flags. I use black Coroplast sheets simply clipped to light stands. If I had the storage and shooting spaces I would make free standing V shaped reflectors/flags from high density foam sheets painted white on one side and flat black on the other using texture paint. You use gaffer's tape to hinge a pair of these together.
