Which Tablet, Tethered Shooting?
I am not sure which of the forums this fits into. I like to use tethered shooting, and so far have only done that using a windows laptop. I am reading a bunch about people starting to use an iPad or Android tablet, using wifi, and then using a camera side adapter like CamRanger or iUSBport-Camera.
iPads have always had more third party support for apps and accessories. As far as apps are concerned the iPad has around 400,000 actual tablet apps available. Android has very few actual tablet apps in comparison and far fewer accessories and addons.
I have decided to purchase a 10 inch Android tablet. My criteria was;
High Resolution bright screen.
You have that with an iPad.
Micro-SD card slot for more memory.
For what purpose? If you have images stored on SD cards taken in your camera just buy more SD cards for your camera. Tethering to a tablet is for viewing and control purposes. Storage is another matter.
No Apple DRM and being forced to use iTunes to move photos.
You don't have to use iTunes to move photos with any iOS device and the only thing that uses DRM from Apple is movies and TV shows, like every other seller of movies and TV shows, and something that has zero to do with what you want to do.
New hardware "this year" with the latest specs, speeds.
The new iPads are to be announced October 22.
That seems to leave only 2 real choices this month and next;
A. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition - Already shipping.
B. Google Nexus 10, 2nd edition - Rumored to announce this month.
I went and looked over the Galaxy Note 10.1 at Best Buy. The screen is very nice, but I can not tell if it is the best (or even IPS). Brightness varies a little when angled off axis, but I could not see color shift. This Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition seems like the best 10 inch Android tablet on the market this month. I am looking for feedback, experiences, cautions with regard to this choice, and in general using a tablet for tethering?
By far the best display available for viewing images on a tablet is the Retina iPad, otherwise known as the iPad 4. They are factory calibrated and have fantastically accurate color. The iPad 5 is expected to be announced Oct. 22 and will be thinner, narrower and lighter than current model.
Is anyone else using CamRanger and a tablet? What has your experience been?
Is there anything I should know about Tablet screen adjustment, color, etc, or is it just good enough for the task?
