On-sensor PDAF, will it be as good as mirrored cameras?
Oct 10, 2013

The strongest rumors to date suggest that the next A-mount (if there are more A-mounts) will be mirrorless. Rumors suggest that such cameras will be announced in very early 2014.

Strong rumors suggest the launch or E-mount full-frame cameras is right around the corner -- next week.

This little bit was on SAR today:

"1) AF is faster than the RX series but still not as fast as the best in the mirrorless world"

Well, assuming that Sony wouldn't intentionally hamper their new premier E-mount cameras... I think it's fair to assume that these cameras will have the best on-sensor AF systems that Sony technology would allow.   And if better technology isn't available now, it's silly to think Sony has plans to perfect the technology within 3 months.

So I really am forced to wonder..... it is all speculation for now.. but if Sony does indeed start building mirrorless A-mounts.... Then will future A-mounts be a backwards step in autofocus, just like the dSLT was a backward step in high-ISO performance.
