D600 will stick as a Nikon camera with a dirty sensor forever. Nikon should have done it the way Pentax handled the initial K5 sensor stain issue - bowed to your users and corrected your mistak. But Nikon thought it was too big and noise would go away, giving time. Big mistake! Read this summary of headlines and you would sense the magnitude of backlash from Nikon's action, or no-action.

Agreed, Nikon would have done well to follow Pentax's lead on this issue - capitulate, apologize, own up. Pentax did the right thing with it's K5 sensor-stain problem.

The different pundit/public reactions to these two cameras is understandable. One's an evolutionary and necessary upgrade that continues the K-mount DSLR line... the other is a break-fix.

If we could extract the two cameras from their chronology, though, forget what came before, the headlines would be on-par - the D610 is a very, very nice affordable FF camera with a brilliant sensor. If you're in the market for FF, it's on your short list.
