And what, pray tell, do you think a lens does to begin with?

Besides, even if it did work like that, the same effect would be apparent simply by changing focus distance as well, making the phenomena far more chaotic than simply a comparison of format size.

Sorry I should have said 'weird lens arrangement that bends the light more than it needs to and then back again". I also had a speed speed booster in mind. Its a weird 'arrangement' that shrinks the image designed for a full frame sensor to a smaller sensor.
