Why, because I also have a 24-120/4.0, and I personally don't care for variable aperture lenses.

I'm afraid that seems like a nonsensical answer to me. You're complaining about the weight of your FX gear, yet you're saying that you use your 24-70 @f5.6 to f8. Well ... er ... if you set a smaller and lighter lens to say f8 in aperture priority mode, then it might as well be a fixed aperture lens, and its a fraction of the weight!
