Why do so few cameras offer a double exposure feature or mode?

Memory is cheap Today, make some single Photos and put them on a Computer together.
This Feature was only for Days where Memory was very Expensive and or not available in bigger sizes...

But by that same reasoning why have any modes at all on the camera?  There are vivid modes and sepia modes and black and white modes, all super easy on edit programs.  I don't do layers and masks and all that. I'm a simple picture taker, I do adjust contrast, light levels, saturation and such.  I know real photographers wouldn't use this mode but it's  a much more useful mode that pet mode or those horrible pseudo wide angle modes.  Thanks for the reply.
