Though the lens hood makes your camera bulkier, I would recommend you to buy it,because it helps to block undesired sunlight from disturbing the lenses and will give a better color effect due to minimization of flare.If you use a UV filter and unluckily your camera falls down,your UV filter will easily shattered damaging the front lens of the camera.Also a UV filter reduces the lens sharpness.I would say a lens hood is a better option.If the lens hood breaks it won’t shatter into pieces,thereby minimizing the damage caused to the camera lens.Also it protects the lens from additional air,dust,water,etc.
