Best Rebel for low light?
Sep 28, 2013

I'll often shoot with a zoom lens and a flash on my 5d2 and then use my T1i as a second body with the 50mm f/1.4 lens.  That way I can switch from flash shots with the 5d2 to low-light non-flash shots at f/1.4 or f/1.8.  I also like how light the T1i is; I don't mind carrying it around in addition to everything else.

I've thought about upgrading the T1i to a different Rebel.  I've heard that the T2i on up have better high ISO performance, but I'm not sure if it's true.  So here are my questions:

1. Will I get a boost in high (~1600) ISO performance by getting a newer Rebel (T2i, T3i, etc)?

2. Is the sensor better in any other way?

3. If so, do T2i...T5i all have the same sensor?  Should I just buy whichever one is cheapest right now (it's often not the T2i)?

4. Is the autofocus equally good on all of them?
