Many compositions look more dynamic from a lower angle, so its certainly no disadvantage to shoot from a chair in a lot of cases as I'm sure you know.  Getting level with table top objects looks far better than shooting down on them.  And as exemplified with the shot of the hall with the flag, going slightly lower puts the chairs into the for-ground whilst still pointing slightly upwards to get the hight which adds depth to the composition.

The 50mm 1.8 looks a good match for the M with its low weight.  And when stopped down to F5 or so like you have, the sharpness of the primes really pulls away from the zooms.
