Unless you are developing your own film, I would think that you may have similar issues, but the lab takes care of that. I also believe that the camera has a little too many brains for its own good. Always trying to think for you.

Getting back to the basic mode of flash photography, the 550ex works excellent in manual mode with the camera in AV or M. You just have to memorize the flash capability matched to the ISO and aperature... just like they used to.

As a wedding photographer, I am coming out of my skin with the poor and inconsistant results from the 550ex, unless you use FEL or have the time to change the focal point to your subject.

I will rent a Quantum flash from the local shop for my next wedding... if it performs as expected, I will sell that guy my 550ex and my 420ex !

(I also look forward to the 200 or 400 ws power from one of those babies!)

Best - Jim

Er... I've been using the 550EX very successfully with the Elan-7,
Elan-II and an EOS-3. In fact, it works great in TTL mode even with
an old EOS-5. No problems. I suspect there's something wrong with
your flash(es)?

It's the Elan-II, Rebel-G, Rebel 2000, Rebel-Ti, Elan-7 and D30
too. in fact the only SLRs where it works as P&S are the EOS3 and
EOS1 series..
