I have always appreciated color and it is a rare shot that I think benefits from being converted to b&w to show form or texture but not color.  On this pair, I thought the B&W was interesting, just as interesting as the color shot.  Perhaps more arresting because it's B&W and therefore needs a bit more mental energy to be devoted to figuring out what we're looking at.  Is that good?  I was wondering about that as I clicked on the first response ...  I guess it is good!

So, this is one of those rare shots where (even) I think B&W might be a good thing.
