Canon 35mm F2 IS USM v.s. Sigma 35mm F1.4
Sep 17, 2013

I know this isn't a very direct comparison, but there are some traits that would make this comparison relevant.

1) 35mm F2 IS USM cost $850 and the Sigma 35mm F1.4 cost $899
2) They are all new breed of lenses from respective manufacturers
3) They are made in Japan
The problem is, Canon just dropped the price of the 35mm F2 IS USM to $599. Would it be a good buy or add more money for the well acclaimed Sigma 35mm F1.4? The Canon 35mm benefits from IS at the cost of a slower speed whereas the Sigma 35mm F1.4 benefits from the larger aperture and can pull a shallow depth of field relatively easy.

From the sample picture i saw, the Canon 35mm F2 is undeniably sharp, but it seems like it is struggling to render the out of focus background compared to the Sigma 35mm F1.4 ( shallower depth of field )
I only shoot photos since i've never invested in equipments for video shooting. Decisions decisions. This one is hard.
