Of course, anyone can buy anything they want, but a novice who buys the most expensive gear and isn't willing to work at it is, in my opinion, foolish, inappropriate, and wasting his time in thinking he will achieve success in photography. If he wants an expensive toy, fine, but I don't have to like it.

LoL. You opinion and that kind of thinking is snobbish. Just because they can affor "expensive toys" doesn't mean they won't be good photographers.

...unless they are unwilling to work at it, the qualification I used. Did you read my post carefully?

"...but a novice who buys the most expensive gear and isn't willing to work at it..."

To simply dismiss that idea seems to smack of elitism and makes you sound like a know-it-all.

Try fully reading the posts, instead of having a knee-jerk reaction to something you think you may have read.

That's the thing -- it DOES NOT really matter what you think of what people do with their gear. It doesn't. When you insinuate yourself and your views on others, you're getting the wrong impression that you matter or that people care. It's like you're jealous or something and that makes you annoying. And yeah, I read your posts alright. I mean, I just wasted time.

You didn't read his post. He stated his opinion. He didn't go punch someone I the face to impose his will and view of the world on them. To take it to the extreme, how do you feel when the woman you love ends up dating an abusive, ignorant jerk you don't think deserves her? Do you think "yay, the universe is awesome!"? Someone who doesn't appreciate what they have, treats it poorly when others wouldn't, and behaves as though they deserve to be that way are worthy of disdain. One can make that statement without being a snob or an elitist. He simply made a statement about what he thinks is fair and right. Don't worry, he's not the king and he knows it so I don't think you have to worry about him putting his opinion into the law of the land.

Dude, if you read the thread his comment generated, you will see that I am not the only one who came to the same conclusion -- that he is basically saying what he thinks of other photographers matters. I understand that you and Sam K have similar views (at least on this point) But you're picking on the wrong guy. His accusations of "knee-jerk reactions" to a few people is absurd. Trust me, we all read his post. Not too nice.

"Dude", the fact that some others were incorrect as well does not make you correct. Please quote an example of  "that he is basically saying what he thinks of other photographers matters."   - I doubt I've ever said anything that ridiculous. Perhaps you should look inside yourself to see why you are getting so bent out of shape.
