It's an interesting opinion.

I'll offer a different view. Nikon needs to learn from studying Apple and adopt many of the same philosophies and practices, including better marketing.

The first thing Steve Jobs did upon his return to Apple in 1996 was reduce its product line offerings and bring focus to the well separated products that remained. Eliminate overlapping, competing and struggling product offerings. Don't take my word for it, this has been well documented.

One of the problems at Nikon (as with many other long lived iconic companies) is that turning the ship in a different direction is a very difficult task. Making such changes can kill the entire company if it's not properly executed. When Jobs made the changes at Apple in the 90s, the company was only months from going completely under and in a do or die situation. That's obviously not the case with Nikon today, but they do appear to be slipping and losing ground to innovative competitors and smartphones.
