The prices would still be outrageously stupid as the manufacturers tap into whatever is deemed exotic and price their products accordingly. Its the twits that keep the prices high. If whoever could not sell their products at exaggerated prices then the prices would have to fall to make 'camera ''A'' a viable item. So long as twits with fat wallets and limited IQ keep buying, the prices will always be massaged to reflect their ''must have'' status.

No, as far as Canon are concerned anyway 'the twits with fat wallets and limited IQ', as you so disparagingly call them, tend to help keep the prices lower.  Without the additional volume of extra sales created by this category of buyer, many items would be uneconomic to produce at all and they would disappear from the line up.

Reducing the price only works if the reduction is sufficient to increase the volume sold significantly so that the total profit is still viable.

A few items items are uneconomic in any case and are simply produced in very limited quantities as 'halo' items as a marketing strategy, mainly in order to try and convince general buyers that camera system A is perhaps better than system B.
