What's the DOWNSIDE of shooting in HDR???

A few weekends back, I decided to try in-camera HDR for the first time - and loved the result.

Yesterday, in a dull moment, a question arose - why not shoot everything in HDR? The concept makes so much good sense, other than the inability to shoot RAW in that mode, that I began to wonder - what's the downside?

And while I am at it - same with auto-DRO. In the manual, it notes that it can make images noisy. True? - and if so, what are the scenarios?

Thanks - Mel
