Please recommend what external mic, etc. to use in a concert hall
Sep 14, 2013

Hi all!

My husband and I recorded a choral concert this summer in Strathmore Hall using a Sony Handycam model PJ790V with 1920 x 1080 Full HD 24p/60p video, 24.1MP stills, Exmor® R CMOS sensor, 35 lumen projector, HDMI input for projection from external devices, top-mounted 5.1-channel surround sound mic.

The recording we got was nice (back of the room so the sound was very full), but there was lots of noise as well which we tried to fix using Power Director.  We got rid of camera clicks, but crying babies were impossible to remove entirely because it blended into the singing.

Strathmore Hall gave us their audio as well which were from 2 microphones hanging above the stage.  They had reduced noise, but the sound was not as full.

Can someone recommend a good solution to this problem?  We are going to be recording in the same hall early December and want to do a better job on the recording.  We can't plug into their system or use any of their electricity due to union rules in which a paid person is the only one allowed to do so and we don't have the funds for that.  Also we'd like to use Sony items if possible.

Thanks for your suggestions!
