SAR is not responsible for Sony abandoning FF DSLRs
In reply to Dennis, 7 months ago

if this is what Sony has done and at this point, it certainly looks like it. No offense Sonyland, but Sony has a whole line-up of entry level cameras and how does one more help? They need a pro-level camera. DSLR, Mirrorless, whatever.

Simple enough.

Most people who visit here either visit SAR or see SAR's rumors regurgitated here.

So people are expecting, with various degrees of confidence and unkown timelines:

  • e-mount is going full frame
  • A mount is going away in favor of e-mount bodies with adapters
  • PDAF-on-sensor eliminating SLT technology

Into this backdrop, Sony releases the Alpha a3000, named more like an A mount product than an e mount product.

And without even bothering to understand what it is, people start assuming that this is the first of a takeover of A mount by E mount; that it's a failure for having CDAF because PDAF-on-sensor should have been here, and so on.

Nobody is looking at it as a simple entry level camera; they're all looking at it in the context of the FUD that SAR is creating with its rumors. People hate it for what they think it means, rather than what it is.

I'm not suggesting that SAR is malicious in any way, but seeing rumors out of context leads to a lot of doubt about Sony's strategy.

Take SAR out of the picture and this would have been a fairly ordinary product release. Well, aside from Sony's bizarre naming scheme.
