Just from this photo, the end looks like it'll extend when you zoom. How else do you explain the "gap" just below where the hood attaches? The patent also indicates a length of 131.16mm – 140.24.

I think the gap may be for the "snap" manual focus, where you just slide the ring forward to enable it.

I'm not sure. The first 2 images below shows no gap between the end of the lens and the beginning of the lens hood.  The last two images shows a 4-5mm gap..most likely from the lens being extended.  There's also plenty of room for manual focus clutch mechanism to move.
