If you can afford it I think the 70-200 is a great lens for portrait... maybe on 1.6x crop sensor you will not use often the longest focal length, but still I don't think it's a waste. I have the 70-200 f4L IS and the IQ is simply superb.

Otherwise, staying on a prime lens, a 85mm (Canon 1.8, 1.2L or Sigma 1.4) could be a really good option.

Since the lens you already own I don't think it make sense to get anything under 60mm.
