Is it worth the price to get these things fixed? I don't feel like within a year and a half of owning the camera these things should have been tearing down like that to require repair work of that price... But maybe others can offer some other advice. I have been annoyed by the command dial, just I don't know if $420 annoyed.

Well,

I have replaced the rubber parts on my D3S now 3 times since I own it, and it did not cost me combined 420 dollars for sure.

That the selection dail is already torn down...normal non-abusive usage, it's quick and I would say it's a guarantee/after sales service question.

It depends on your usage if you think the rubber parts are no problem if missing..but that dail might be a functional question.

It cost me $330 to the a lens calibration of my D4 with all pro 6 lenses...and $130 for the same with a D700.

Nikon is def raping us on the D4 for repair prices, but in the end, it's a pro camera, and if that's what it takes to keep it working...
