The end of photography in my town

I live in an Australian town of about 200,000 people.
We have the main 6 large electronic department stores plus two major camera specialist stores. All used to generally sell a large range of new cameras at good prices.

6 months on -

3 of the 6 retailers have halfed the size of their camera department and two have abolished them all together selling maybe 5-10 cheap point and shoot models from a small cabinet and nothing more.

The others sell only samsung or smart photo cameras, super zooms, a very large selection of sport cameras like go pro and only a very small and limited selection of dslr.

What's gone all together is all micro 4/3 cameras, a good selection of point and shoot, small compact pro cameras and half of the dslr - all gone. I've also noticed the dslr they are selling are old models like canon 600d or canon 1000 and they are not even reduced to reflect their age.

The specialised retails: one has closed down the other sells only dslr doing away with point and shoot and micro 4/3.

Looking at these retailers online offering for rest of country is a similar situation, selected cameras, old stock and expensive prices and the retail stores will no longer bargain on the old stock.
