Elements 11 is a more than adequate image editor for most amateur photogs. Compared to CS2 it is just fine. It supports most all the plug-ins and has several nifty tools absent in CS2. It is also reasonably priced compared to Adobe's CS. In all honesty, unless you are dealing with prepress it should meet your needs. It is stable and while I only use mine as a secondary editor when I need to alter images, it does perform reasonably well.

Adobe does offer a free 30 day, fully functional trial here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_elements&loc=us
