Mile wide Margerie Glacier, Alaska
In reply to Andre Bomhof, Sep 4, 2013

I took just a few series of photos in Alaska, thinking I might play with some stitching software later. Sure wish I would have taken more.
This is a 9-shot stitched pano of Margerie Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park. The blue ice you see is over 1 mile wide. I sized it way down to post. The original is almost 23,000 pixels wide and 129 mb jpeg.

I tried free downloads of several stitching programs. Microsoft ICE was very easy to use, but I ended up buying PTGui.

The photos were taken with my D800, 70-200 2.8 @ 70mm, shot vertically. If you have the bandwidth to look at it 1:1 you will notice a few white flecks against the black rock/ice just above the water level. In the full size version (too large to post here) you can clearly see those are kittiwakes circling and plunge diving for fish stunned when the glacier calves.
