Can somone provide a real world example of what "OSS gives a 3 stop advantage" means?

I don't get the discussion though. If one even is remotely interested in sharpness and want to have less camera shake why not just use a tripod? No amount of OSS will magically take care of night shots without having to raise the ISO anyway.

Even the cheaper tripods is way better then having OSS. If size of a tripod is somewhat of a problem buy a small one like Velbon CX Mini: http://www.ephotozine.com/article/velbon-cx-mini-tripod-review-19932 I got that one myself and no -- it isn't the most awesome tripod ever made but for travelling or just having in a regular bag it's awesome.
