Thinking of switching up to a NEX

After missing some potentially good wildlife shots on my last holiday, I think it might be time to trade in my point and shoot - a Lumix TZ20 - for something else. I don't like the thought of lugging an DSLR around, and after a bit of research I suspect a mirrorless may be for me, and I'm considering a NEX.

However, something that's puzzling me is the purported zoom range of the telescopic lens. This is where my current camera is letting me down. It has a 16x zoom. As far as I can tell, the E mount telescopic lenses max out at 11x. So I don't think I can expect any closer shots (the opposite in fact).

Am I misunderstanding something, or would a NEX not be a good choice for me? Any advice would be appreciated.
