There's a tiny little moulding bump on the edge of the grip.  This indicates the location where the NFC contact should be made between the camera and your NFC device:

And a reason why NFC hasn't been that useful is lack of support/devices to communicate with. However, new smart phones (including Sony's Xperia's) do support NFC so will make transfer of images even easier than with wifi on the 5R and 6.

They also support USB OTG which is the way I prefer to make contact between the two devices - faster and no need to keep holding the things together!

NFC is really designed for cardkey access type applications where there is a very short exchange of a small amount of data - not the sort of large volume data exchange you would probably want between a camera and a smartphone or tablet
