You think? These boys are proud to be living on the street. That's how they want it. They are not suffering or at the mercy of strangers begging for handouts. They work all day collecting cans and whatever metal they can salvage. They live hard and like it that way. A far cry from someone in a miserable way.

How do I know this? I kicked it with them for a couple hours, drinking semi-cold beers and swapping stories. There were a bunch of homeless people under a bridge we were hanging out at, some passed out and in a bad way. I didn't take one picture of that misery. I asked my "friends" if I could get a picture of them away from the bridge and in the light. They were happy to oblige especially when I said it might appear in a book I'm working on and most definitely on flickr.

So, smart guy, you couldn't be more wrong.
